AAWAA is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to ensuring the visibility and documentation of Asian American women in the arts.
Through exhibitions, publications, and educational programs, we offer thought-provoking perspectives that challenge societal assumptions and promote dialogue.
Founded in 1989, AAWAA serves as a portal to Asian American Women in the Arts, providing exhibitions, literary readings, speakers' bureau, workshops, publications, and educational resources.
A Place of Her Own
Author Virginia Woolf once proposed that in order for a woman to practice her craft, one must have a room of her own.
What happens when we expand those parameters to women of all economic levels and ethnic backgrounds, go beyond the concept of room to discover a place, in which the limitations are bound by the imagination and nothing more?
A Place of Her Own is a multi-phase, multi-disciplinary project which poses the question, "If you had a place of your own, what would it be?" Through a variety of programming AAWA provides artists and the public opportunities to explore their creative responses.
