Volunteers & Interns

In exchange for your skills and valuable time, you are given the opportunity to work closely with Asian American women artists, AAWAA’s Board, and other strong leaders to gain perspective and experience in a non-profit arts organization and provide important support for the organization.

Here are some of the areas where we could use your skills and support and sample projects that you could work on:

PROGRAMS COMMITTEE

Programming/Curatorial – submit a curatorial proposal to our Emerging Curators Program or help us program our next Speaker’s Bureau. Produce exhibitions and publications, present educational lectures, panel discussions, literary readings and artists talks, and coordinate artists’ professional development workshops and salons.

Production/Installation – help us put together and install our next art exhibition. AAWAA has exhibited in many spaces such as the de Young Museum, SOMArts Cultural Center, Arc Studios & Gallery, etc.

Event Planning/Staffing – with each exhibition and presentation, AAWAA needs assistance with receptions, artists talks, panels, readings, etc. Communicate with potential volunteers and manage other volunteers and interns.

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

Marketing/PR/Social Media – create publicity campaigns for online/social media for our art exhibits like A PLACE OF HER OWN or underCurrents & the Quest for Space. Market and publicize programs and events, oversee website and social media, and develop internal and external communications strategies while cultivating media relations.

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Fundraising/Development – plan our next fundraising event or help us seek out and apply for grants that will support our programs. Foster funder relations, donor cultivation, and membership campaigns.

ARCHIVAL COMMITTEE

Archiving/Documentation – aid us archive our media (images, videos, essays, articles) to ensure the documentation of Asian American women artists for educational and historical purposes by cataloging our contributions to the arts. Develop dynamic online archive of contemporary Asian American Women in the arts.

OPERATIONS COMMITTEE

Administration - prepare budgets, finance reports, bookkeeping, database management, keeping track of records and administrative files, and systemizing internal documents and communications.
