I was born in Kyoto where I studied both traditional and contemporary art practices, before completing my education in Hamburg at the Institute of Visual Arts, a school based on Bauhaus principles. In 1972, I established residence in California, where I continue to work as an artist. My work often has the imprint of my wide travels around the world, but all my art, no matter how contemporary and international in concept and form, is based on my strong memory and attachment to Japanese tradition. |

My "Inner Landscapes" are abstract forms but they are also close to nature's organic formations. They can be seen as sensuous self-portraits of female energy. My meditations were made tangible by my working with clay, that is to say, with modeling clumps of the earth itself. |
