In manifesting the intangible aspects of my visits to archeological sites, particularly the Mayan Tikal, Chichen Itza, Tulum and Teotihuacan, I coincidentally understood my own Latin roots and its affinities to the history of Philippine culture; i.e., the colonization of Spain and the tremendous influence of Catholicism.

Recently, the impulse for greater physical expression, to encompass the floor and wall spaces as well as interconnect them visually, inspired "Attainment of Insignificance." Two other elements, a more human presence ( through

anthropomorphic forms), and texture (through embedded twine), needed to assert themselves in the work. The anthropomorphic forms arose from visits to the rest home my father resides in. With extreme feelings of vulnerability, helplessness and sadness, I perceived residents of the rest home literally as rejected and discarded heaps of society, abandoned to die... truly insignificant. The braided twine which inter-links them are "soul-catchers" used in ritual by a primal tribe in Cook's Island.
